Angler of the Year Award

SoCal Pescadores - Angler of the Year Award (AOY)

The Angler of the Year Award is awarded to the angler with the most points earned in the calendar year. Every member is automatically entered as long as your membership is active. There is no fee to be eligible for this award. All anglers and points will be tracked by the SCPFC Weighmaster.

There are three Angler of the Year Divisions:

  1. Men Angler of the Year
  2. Women Angler of the Year
  3. Junior Angler of the Year

How It Works - For adults (Men's and Women's Division) each angler must  submit at least 8 fish species to qualify and Junior anglers must submit at least 6 species to qualify. All you have to do is go out and fish and submit a weight receipt (using the online weight receipts system) for each fish caught. You only need to submit one weight receipt for each species caught. But you can always submit another weight receipt for the same fish species if later you catch a heavier fish.

If you submit a fish for the Angler of the Year Award, you CANNOT submit the same fish for the King of the Bay Award.

How Point Are Awarded - Once the weighmaster has certified your weight receipt, your fish will be given a point value based on a predetermined point system assigned to each fish species. At the end of the year your 8 species for adults or 6 species for juniors with the highest point valued will be added and a total point value determined.

Eligible Species - All fish caught in local waters (within 125 miles of Point Loma) are eligible. All fish species listed on our club records pages are eligible. The one exception is the bass family (Kelp, Barred Sand and Spotted). Only the one bass with highest point value from the bass family is eligible towards your required species for the AOY award.

Rules - All IGFA and SCPFC rules are in effect. Any violation of any of the rules is ground for disqualification from the AOY award. The Weighmaster has the authority to make the final ruling pertaining to rules violations. Please make sure to review the IGFA and SCPFC rules before submitting your weight receipts.

IGFA Rules - Please make to visit the IGFA website for the complete IGFA International Angling Rules.

SCFC Rules:

  1. All fish must weighed on a scale that is accurate and reports weight to the nearest tenth or hundredth of a pound (no ounces). You cannot  round up, you can only round down to the nearest tenth or pound.
  2. Each catch has a maximum point value of 100 points.
  3. Fish must be caught in local waters only (within 125 miles of Point Loma)
  4. Weight receipt must be submitted using the SCPFC Online Weight Receipt System.
  5. Your weight receipt must be submitted within 10 days of of your catch.
  6. Your catch must be witnessed. If there is no witness available, a picture showing the fish and the weight must be provided.
  7. Adults (Men's & Women's Divisions) must submit at least 8 eligible species to qualify. If more than 8 species are submitted, the best 8 species scores will be accepted.
  8. Juniors must submit at least 6 eligible species to qualify. If more than 6 species are submitted, the best 6 species scores will be accepted.
  9. IGFA Rules also apply.
  10. Mexican fishing regulations apply when fishing within Mexican waters.
  11. Tie Breakers - first catch submitted based on Weight Receipt submission date. The date and time is determined by our online Weight Receipt system.
  12. Only species listed on the Club Records are eligible for entry. Kelp, Barred Sand, and Spotted bass are considered one species for Angler of the Year. Sheephead, Sharks and Rays are not eligible species.

All December weight receipts must be received by January 10th of the following year.
